Furneaux Lodge staff give evidence
Staff who were working at Furneaux Lodge when Ben Smart and Olivia Hope went missing on New Year's Eve 1997 started giving evidence in the High Court in Wellington on Wednesday, June 16, 1999.
The manager on the night has described how busy it was with 15 hundred people converging on the lodge to see in the New Year.

Brian Beban [BEBB-in] says a special food hall was set up in the grounds of the lodge and two bars sold ready made drinks and beer.

Mr Beban says several scuffles broke out and drinks were spilt on the band's sound gear causing it to short circuit at ten o'clock.

He was also asked to describe the lighting conditions at the lodge's jetties. Mr Beban says he wasn't aware Ben and Olivia were missing until January 2nd.

Justice Heron also issued a warning to the media covering the trial - stating that there is a great deal more evidence to hear and news reports should remain without comment at this stage.
